Where and When to Shoot in Arches National Park

Arches now requires a timed entry reservation from April through October for vehicles entering between 7am and 4pm — after 4pm entry is generally free. Plan night shoots around arriving before 4pm or after hours. The park is heavily visited — finding solitude after dark requires going to less-popular arches beyond Delicate Arch.

🏹
Delicate Arch Viewpoint
The iconic arch is best photographed from the main trail (3 miles round trip, 480-foot elevation gain) not the lower viewpoint. The galactic core rises south of the arch — position below and to the southeast of the arch opening.
🌌
Landscape Arch
The longest natural arch in the US (306 feet) gives an extraordinary elongated foreground. The Devils Garden trail to Landscape Arch is 1.6 miles — accessible after dark with good lighting.
🌙
Double Arch
The two connected arches in the Windows Section give a natural alcove composition. The arches open southeast — strong for capturing the galactic core rising through the dual arch openings.
🌄
Balanced Rock
The standalone boulder formation visible from the main road gives a simple, strong foreground silhouette. Less compositionally complex than the arches but easily accessible and effective against the night sky.
