Not when it's thickest. The 30–60 minutes after sunrise when fog thins and patches is the most photogenic window. LightCast FogCast scores formation probability and burn-off timing for your location.

Fog photography has three distinct phases. Most photographers either miss the shoot entirely or arrive at the wrong phase. The burn-off window is almost always the most photogenic — but it requires knowing when fog is likely to form in the first place.
The same fog event looks completely different depending on where you're standing. From below in a valley: atmospheric, moody, limited visibility, light diffused. From above on a ridge or hillside: a sea of cloud beneath you with peaks and towers emerging, often with clear blue sky overhead. Both are compelling — the best fog photographers check the terrain and choose a position deliberately rather than just driving to the nearest foggy area.
