Know before you drive: FogCast checks the conditions that produce photogenic fog
Get more than a snapshot of current conditions. The LightCast app unlocks everything to plan ahead

The rocky coastline, tide pools, and offshore islands disappear and reappear as fog banks move through, and the pink granite of the Acadian peaks takes on a dramatic quality in flat foggy light.
Cadillac Mountain is the highest point on the US Atlantic coast and on foggy mornings the summit sits above a sea of cloud with the surrounding islands visible as dark shapes below. Thunder Hole, Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse, and the carriage roads through the interior are all strong fog photography subjects. The lighthouse at Bass Harbor is particularly striking when sea fog rolls in from the south.
Summer and early fall are the best fog seasons, from June through October. Sea fog is most common when warm air moves over the cold Gulf of Maine water. July and August have the highest fog frequency. Fog can move in and dissipate within an hour on the coast, making FogCast checks the evening before essential for planning.
