How It Works

Email alerts built around how photographers actually shoot.

Most weather apps tell you temperature and rain chance. Neither is useful if you're trying to decide whether to pack your camera. LightCast alerts are built around the variables that actually determine sky quality: cloud structure, moon phase, light angle, atmospheric clarity, and Bortle class for dark sky work.

You set a minimum score. We watch conditions for your city every hour. When the forecast crosses your threshold with enough lead time to act, you get one email. When it doesn't, you hear nothing — silence is information too.

Why LightCast

Purpose-built for outdoor and landscape photographers.

LightCast is a free suite of sky forecasting tools: Goldcast for golden hour, Starcast for astrophotography, Dronecast for drone flight windows, and Tricast for camera settings. The alert systems are extensions of those tools — automated versions of the manual check you'd do anyway, sent to your inbox so you never have to remember.
