Frequently asked
Is tonight good for stargazing at Grand Teton?
The live score above pulls today's forecast and runs it through StarCast's scoring model, factoring in cloud cover, moon illumination, Bortle class, humidity, and atmospheric transparency. Above 70 is an excellent night. Below 40, conditions are poor. The score updates daily.
What makes Grand Teton good for astrophotography?
Grand Teton is an International Dark Sky Park with Bortle 2 to 3 conditions away from Jackson. The Teton Range rises abruptly from the valley floor with no foothills, creating one of the most dramatic mountain silhouettes in North America for Milky Way foreground compositions. Oxbow Bend and the Snake River overlook give reflection shots with the peaks behind. The park sits at 6,800 feet with consistently dry air and exceptional atmospheric transparency in summer.
When is the Milky Way visible at Grand Teton?
The galactic core is visible from March through October. June through August offers the best combination of core altitude and reasonable overnight temperatures at elevation. Schwabacher Landing and Mormon Row are the two most photographed Milky Way locations in the park, both offering clear southern views with the Teton peaks as backdrop.
