Anchorage, Alaska
Sunset · Night Sky · Drone Flight · Pre-loaded for Anchorage
The best accessible sunset location in Anchorage. The trail runs 18 km along Knik Arm with the Alaska Range filling the western horizon. When the sun drops behind Denali on clear evenings, the light on the water and the mountains is extraordinary. Point Woronzof at the north end of the trail gives the widest unobstructed view over Cook Inlet.
Check tonight's sunset →The most-hiked peak in Alaska and one of the best photography locations near Anchorage. From the summit you get the city below, Cook Inlet to the west, and the Alaska Range across the water. At golden hour the city lights come up as the sun drops behind the range. In winter, the summit gives a clear dark sky view with the aurora to the north.
Check golden hour timing →A boardwalk wetland just south of the city where the Chugach Mountains rise directly behind the marsh. Sunrise here in autumn puts warm alpenglow on the peaks above while moose and waterfowl work the foreground. One of the most accessible wildlife and landscape combinations in any North American city. Best in September and October when the light is low and crisp.
Check sunrise forecast →Drive north on the Glenn Highway and the light pollution drops fast. The Mat-Su Valley around Palmer and Wasilla reaches Bortle 3–4, with the Chugach and Talkeetna ranges as foreground. This is where most Anchorage photographers come for aurora and winter star work. A clear night in January or February from a dark valley field here is hard to beat anywhere in the US.
