Best Spots in Miami
Sunset Check TFRs
Brickell Waterfront & Bayfront Park
Downtown Miami · Biscayne Bay

The Biscayne Bay waterfront gives you the full downtown skyline looking north with water in the foreground. Golden hour light hits the glass towers and reflects off the bay. Best position is from the South Miami Avenue bridge or Museum Park waterfront. MIA airspace creates drone restrictions — check Dronecast.

Sunrise Sunset
South Beach Ocean Drive
Miami Beach · Art Deco district

The Art Deco hotels of Ocean Drive photograph best at sunrise when the neon signs are still lit against a pink sky. The beach faces east — perfect for sunrise. Sunset is less useful here (facing east), but blue hour from the beach looking west toward the hotels is strong.

Astro escape ~40 mi west
Everglades National Park
Homestead · Bortle 5–6

The closest dark sky from Miami and surprisingly workable. Anhinga Trail and Pa-hay-okee Overlook give you open sky with sawgrass prairie foreground — wide-field star shots with a uniquely Florida feel. Humidity and summer mosquitoes are real; winter visits are far more comfortable.

Sunset Sunrise
Virginia Key & Cape Florida
Key Biscayne · 10 mi south

Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park has the oldest lighthouse in Florida as a foreground anchor. The park faces southeast with open Atlantic — exceptional for sunrise. At sunset, shooting west from the bay side gives you the Miami skyline across the water. One of the best and least-known spots near downtown.

Miami sunset quality depends heavily on humidity and cloud cover. Summer afternoons build thunderstorms that sometimes clear dramatically for vivid post-storm sunsets. Winter and spring offer more reliable color. Run Goldcast to check today's score. Check tonight's score →
Miami is far south: summer golden hour starts around 7:45–8:00 PM. Winter golden hour begins around 5:30 PM. The warm latitude means relatively consistent golden hour timing year-round compared to northern cities. Get today's golden hour time →
Miami proper is Bortle 9. The Everglades (40 mi west, Bortle 5–6) is the closest viable dark sky but humidity is a major limiting factor in summer. Winter visits to the Everglades in December–March offer the best combination of dark sky and acceptable humidity. Check tonight's conditions →
Miami is complex airspace. MIA, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood, and Opa-locka airports create overlapping restrictions. South Beach and most Miami-Dade parks prohibit drones. Virginia Key and some outer areas are more accessible. Dronecast provides live airspace and NOTAM data. Check Miami airspace →
