Taipei, Taiwan
Sunset · Astrophotography · Drone Flight · Pre-loaded for Taipei
The most photographed viewpoint in Taipei. The granite boulder outcrops on the Xiangshan ridge face directly west toward Taipei 101 — 500 m away and perfectly framed. At sunset the tower catches the last warm light while the basin sky fades behind it. The main viewpoint has limited space: arrive 40 minutes before sunset. A higher secondary viewpoint 10 minutes further up the trail offers a wider panorama with less compression. The MRT to Xiangshan station then 20 minutes on foot. Entirely free.
Check tonight's sunset →The Yangmingshan volcanic highland north of Taipei often sits above the city cloud layer. The Qingtiangang grassland plateau gives open 360° views across the mountains and, on clear days, down to the Taiwan Strait and Pacific coast. At sunset the low sun rakes across the open grassland and volcanic ridges. When Taipei is fogged in below, Yangmingshan frequently has clear sky. Bus 260 runs from Jiantan MRT station. The Xiaoyoukeng fumaroles add surreal foreground for wide-angle shots.
Check Yangmingshan forecast →The Danshui River mouth opens to the Taiwan Strait — one of Taiwan's best accessible waterfront sunsets. The Guanyin Mountain silhouette sits directly to the west across the river estuary, catching the full sunset sky behind it. The Tamsui Old Street waterfront promenade is relaxed and photogenic, with fishing boats, the 1629 Fort San Domingo, and evening lantern light. MRT to Tamsui terminal then a short walk. October through January gives the clearest and most vivid light.
Check Tamsui conditions →One of the best drive-accessible dark sky sites in East Asia. Route 14A climbs to 3,275 m — above most moisture and cloud. Bortle 2–3 skies with open mountain horizon and high-altitude clarity. Milky Way core is exceptional May through September. The Wuling Pass and Kunyang viewpoints along the road give clear southern horizons. Plan to arrive before dark, bring warm layers (temperatures drop to 5–10°C at night in summer), and check Starcast before the 3-hour drive from Taipei.
